Culture allows us to break down barriers we ourselves create about which parts of the city “belong” to us and which “areas” of work and geography we’re allowed in. The CCIC aims to change that.
If there was no crime and violence in communities that have been historically divested from, predominately where people of color live. Imagine a "crime" strike, leading to a drought in crime.
The “Crime Drought Tour” is a series of ongoing events, activations, art and storytelling projects throughout Chicago’s most culturally rich, yet divested neighborhoods. This series of vibrant, visionary, and free events across south and west of Chicago will offer the stage to young musicians, poets, and visual artists of color, provide educational and community engagement opportunities, and create space for collective joy, celebration, and calls to end both state and interpersonal violence in the city. These tour stops/activations will expand the summer youth programming and the number of available summer jobs, train community members on violence interruption, and skill up previously overlooked voices to speak out about what they and their communities need to feel and be safer and healthier.
Imagine our communities free of crime and violence.
